OCHRE takes its name from the landscapes of Armenia’s Shirak region.
Though commonly thought of as golden yellow, ochre spans a natural earthy range from yellow through red to brown, occasionally carrying subtle purplish undertones.
This play of colors is mirrored in the landscapes of Shirak, where our enterprise took shape and grew.
Established in 2020 as a creative social enterprise, OCHRE merges artistic ideas with artisanal expertise to craft objects for everyday life.
Each creation carries an intimate gesture, revealing the artist’s vision and tracing the movement of the artisan’s hand.
At the heart of our practice is wool — a material that serves as both a physical foundation and a source of reflection..
We use 100% Armenian wool, obtained directly from shepherds in the Shirak and Syunik regions.
Wool is the starting point, never an obligatory final destination. Our collaborations in recent years have led us into the world of embroidery and the many legacies preserved by Armenian communities.
We create objects for everyday life born out of an exploration of the diverse Armenian textile traditions, gazing at the landscape of Armenia and searching for more sustainable ways of relating—to materials, to histories, and to one another.
