The Prelude collection was developed in 2020 in collaboration with artist Aleksey Manukyan.
Aleksey’s practice is deeply connected to the urban and natural landscapes of Gyumri, in Armenia’s Shirak region, where he is based. The collection emerged from a shared exploration of the Shirak landscape and the wool sourced locally, in an area where sheep breeding has shaped everyday life for centuries.
Through this process, Aleksey returned to drawings he had made in 2010, transforming their lines into woven compositions.
The collection consists of five blankets. Each piece is handwoven from pure Armenian wool and finished with hand embroidery by the artisans.
Aleksey Manukyan lives and works in Gyumri, Armenia. His artistic practice explores art as a language capable of crossing boundaries shaped by social, cultural, and national conflicts.
Through independent practice and participation in international projects, Manukyan reflects on contemporary reality, time, and memory, often bringing the past into dialogue with the present. His work considers questions of human freedom and engages with unresolved social and cultural issues, opening them up for reflection and discussion.
He is also a co-initiator of the 5th Floor cultural group in Gyumri.
